The 2022 African Youth Survey, which was conducted in 19 African countries and released on Monday, showed that 76% of young people view China’s influence as positive while 77% view China as the most important foreign power. power of the continent.

More than half of young Africans (54%) said China had a big impact on their country. In three countries there is near universal agreement that China is Africa’s most influential foreign country: Rwanda (97%), Malawi (95%) and Nigeria (90%).

“It’s an endorsement of Chinese foreign policy that has increased investment in the African continent. If you listen to the rhetoric from the US and the EU that China is not good for growth and development development of Africa, but young people say that the opposite,” Ichikowitz Foundation Chairman Ivor Ichikowitz told Xinhua on Tuesday.

The report showed that young people see the Chinese influence as positive with their investments and infrastructural developments. They chose China to provide loans and economic support and to create job opportunities. The young people also said that China provides Africa with good export opportunities and access to affordable goods.

Ichikowitz said African youth have confidence in the future of China-Africa relations, stressing that he believes Africa and China could become “superpowers” in the future.
