  • South African players have landed in Delhi to prepare for the 1st T20I against India
  • The five T20Is will be played in different venues from June 9 to 19
  • KL Rahul to lead Men in Blue in Rohit Sharma’s absence

Following the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, international cricket will resume in India as the Men in Blue host South Africa in 5 T20Is from June 9. Since the COVID-19 situation is under control in the country, the matches will be played in different centers and the teams will travel from state to state.

Delhi will host the series-opening T20I. While Indian players are enjoying some well-deserved time off, South African players have landed in the state to prepare for the series opener.

Thursday, June 2, Temba Bavuma & Co. landed in the nation’s capital. The majority of players have landed in the country while David Miller is in the Maldives. He was part of the IPL Gujarat Titans champions this season and is enjoying his time in the Maldives. He will soon join his teammates.

There will be no bio-bubble in the series. But players should undergo regular COVID-19 tests.

Indian players are expected to congregate in Delhi by the end of the week. KL Rahul will lead the Men in Blue in the absence of Rohit Sharma. He will be assisted by Rishabh Pant.

Besides Rohit, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were also rested for the series. Despite the absence of the top 3 players, India have almost their full squad at the helm. Rahul Dravid will continue to lead the coaching staff. Although he won’t be visiting Ireland.

After the opening T20I, the action will move to Cuttack for the 2nd T20I which will be played on June 12th. The last 3 T20I will take place on June 14, 17 and 19 in Vizag, Rajkot and Bengaluru respectively. The last time SA toured India, in 2019, the T20I three-game series ended 1-1.
